Problems Faced By Women Handloom Weavers in Pollachi Taluk

Abstract

Now a day's women owned business are playing a significant role in society by generating profit as well as employment opportunities. Accordingly, it becomes essential to study problems of women handloom weavers in Pollachi Taluk. Data for study have been collected from 74 women handloom weavers through interview schedule by adopting convenience sampling method. Simple Percentage, Weighted Average Ranking and Chi-Square test has been used to analyze the data. The study reveals that majority of the women handloom weavers belong to the age group of 31-40 years residing in rural who lives as joint family whereas most of the women weavers have more than 10 years experience. It is found that low wages for work done is ranked first by women handloom weavers followed by problem in health, lack of income during off season, problem in getting raw material, problem in raising capital, lack of skilled weavers and problem in marketing product. It is also found that Age, Marital Status, Monthly Income, Family Income and Experience in Weaving have significant association with level of problems faced by women handloom weavers.
