An Empirical Study to Analyse Financial Sondness of Select Health Insurance Companies

Abstract

Health insurance is apart of general insurance. It is the highest contributor of premium to general insurance and one of the emerging sectors especially after the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. The growth of this sector is very important from the perspective of overall growth of insurance sector in India. To study the financial health of this sector the researchers has selected top six insurance companies operating in India on the basis of availability of data. The financial data relating to the selected companies are collected for 10 years from 2010 - 2011to 2019 - 2020. The collected data have been tabulated, analyzed and interpreted with the help of various financial ratios and Z score -Multivariate Discriminate Analysis (MDA), developed by prof. Edward Altman (1968). The researchers observedfrom the analysis that the health insurance companies of India are facing problems because most of the health insurance companies are in bankruptcy zone.
